The Live-On Project
Martha connects to her family heritage
and ethnicity:
Martha is German but she does not know very much
about her family or her family genealogy. She does not
speak German and does not know her relatives in
Germany. Her parents, who migrated to the states in
their early 20’s, are now dead. She does not have any
siblings but she is married and has a teenage son. She
has often thought about finding relatives in Germany
and even spending a significant amount of money to do
so. She bought the Live-On Project to track all that she
knows so her son and possible grandkids will not have
the same issue of not knowing their own heritage. If
she dies without saying what she knows, all will be
forever lost.
But what if…
Martha’s mom wrote her letters with her uncle and
aunt’s contact information, wrote out the family
genealogy so she would know where her cousins ended
up living, recorded videos of her speaking in German for
her grandkids and saying hello to them, and any funny
stories about growing up in Germany. The connection
Martha would have to her heritage would be so much
more profound and well-rounded. Her connection
would be present and deep. Her constant thoughts
about “losing her heritage” for herself, her son and her
grandkids would not be an ever-present thought.
