THE TRANSFORMATIVE TEEN YEARS
If you want your children to improve, let them overhear the
nice things you say about them to others. – Haim Ginott
A lot of things happen in the teen years; some magical
and some very tough. During this time, kids
experiences changes, hormones are raging, they are
becoming more aware and trying to find who they are
as people. The advice in these formative years can
shape your children. They are also getting ready for
college...or not. Your thoughts about their futures can
come into play. Would you be just as happy if your child
decided not to go to college and instead went to
culinary school...or started their own business?
Kids also get distracted with thoughts of sex, dating,
chores, learning how to drive, sports and many other
things. Think back to your high school years. What
stands out? What was a difficult time? What was a
good time? What do you wish you knew then that you
know now? What was your relationship like with your
own parents? What did you not understand about your
own parents that you understand now? How can you
possibly avoid misunderstandings with your own
children? Remember to speak in your own voice, your
own tone, and be as casual and comfortable as you like.
