                      How to Design Your Letter

The single biggest problem with communication is the
illusion that it has taken place.
                               -George Bernard Shaw

            T
here are no rules when it comes to how to create
your letter. I think a good practice would be to
write how you speak, in a conversational way.

Think about the topic you want to write, and after
reviewing your notes on the subject, start with an
opener and building blocks. After you put the blocks
together, you have your completed letter!

For instance, imagine the letter is about university
graduation day. I would write my letter in this way,
            using these building blocks:

         Title of letter: Graduation Day
Opening line: Today is your college graduation day.
Describe occasion: It is a day filled with excitement, hope for the
future, recognition of achievement and new beginnings.
Addressing the occasion for your child: On this day, I want to say how
very proud I am of you! You did it! You should take a moment to
reflect on this achievement and know that I am so excited for what the
future will bring you. This is a thrilling time in life, a time when the
world is yours. And I want you to grab that world!
